I think Obamouse should have his own show on Comedy Central. Of course those chicken****s would never put it on the air. Still, you might want to trademark the character just in case.
@ Mr_Towi, Disaproval over someone showing disrespect to the President is your right. Showing disrespect to the President is also a right. A right that very few people complained of the exercise of when Bush was president I might add.
@ Anon, so now you are discriminating? You only criticise Mr. Allie?
It’s not plagiarism when two people have the same idea, unknown to each other. That said, I would contend that the WillSmithObamamouse has a completely different vibe and intent from Allie’s BarryRat (BTW, I like Will Smith). The “comicsalliance” version would have a cheesy recording of “Shaft” playing in the background; whereas, Allie’s would have background music of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” playing while BarryRat was doin’ the Moonwalk across the South Lawn.
Shawn, so it’s OK to disrespect any president?
Is “my right” “your right”? where in the constitution does it say so?
Before you go look it up, my point: disrespecting any president is WRONG, just as it is wrong to burn the US flag.
Anon, there’s no “I” in team, but there are three “U’s” in Shut the fuck up.
The freedom to disrespect the President, (or anyone else, for that matter) is protected under the First Amendment of the Constitution. That same protection also extends to someone who burns the American flag in protest.
again:
“disrespecting any president is WRONG, just as it is wrong to burn the US flag. ”
just because you have the right to do something, does not make it RIGHT.
Mr_Towi, while I totally agree with what you are saying, I feel it is important to mention that you are describing morality in your description of what is “right” and “wrong”. Unfortunately, there are a variety of moral codes and none of them are the same. This is the reason why laws exist, so everyone knows what is NOT acceptable behaviour.
For example, I believe that burning the flag as a form of protest is wrong, I also believe that drinking alcohol, smoking, and adultury is wrong. I also do NOT believe that forcing everyone to abide my moral code is right either. So just because I don’t drink beer, that doesn’t mean no one can, unless it becomes illegal.
Shawn, I believe we share the responsibility as Americans to disagree with our Elected officials, without crossing the line. The “line” being: showing disrespect. Why else do you think I’m a regular at furiousdiaper.com? Unlike trolls, I do find Allie’s perspective, quite entertaining, and more often than not (this one being the exception) I feel he does a fine job.
I agree with you…mostly. I think everybody has a “line” they don’t want to cross, I just think it is unrealistic to expect everybody’s line to be in the same place as yours.
Personally, I thought this ‘toon was brilliant. I gues I liked it more than you did.
Shawn, I love the way Eric gets his point across, it’s so clear and blunt that will make you either get it or hate him. Anon as an example, he hates Eric so much, he can’t stop coming back every day to check the latest cartoon.
I’m just saying “I” have a problem with showing our President as anything other than human. As far as I’m concerned though, Mr. Allie, have at it.
Mr Towi, it’s an interesting point you make about disrespect. Other than drawing Ed Schultz as a literal butt face, I generally am very respectful in that respect. I don’t draw Obama as a malevolent person, I even portrayed Nancy Pelosi as a better looking person than she really is.
With this one, the metaphor that was important to the drawing was the mousetrap. So with a mousetrap, I needed mice. I didn’t make Obama a flea infested rat, I made him a cute mouse. I didn’t see it as disrespectful, but I see your point.
I hope you know that I wasn’t implying plagiarism when I said “OUCH!” I was implying severe eye pain from viewing the comic cover. Who would ever allow Obamouse to be approved for publication???
If you would like anything of mine on a shirt click on the SHIRTS link below. It will take you to Image Directly's site and they will be able to produce whatever you want. I should have my store up and working sometime this decade.
They use a state-of-the-art direct to garment ink jet printer that produces bright colors and sharp lines. It washes extremely well and will not crack. It's good stuff.
Thanks.

Obamouse, I like that.
I hate to break it to you, but Obamouse has been done already:
http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/01/13/obamouse-comic/
OUCH!
Oh well. There goes that million dollar idea.
Eric’s is a lot better than that “comisalliance” version of Obamouse.
How about “Barryrat” instead?
I vote for BarryRat!! sounds Presidential!
I’m still trying to get over the US President drawn as anything other than human.
Well he did draw him as a Vulcan…does that count?
Half human is ok right?
Mr_Towi, I am curious, what do you think of Doonesbury’s portrayals of US Presidents and other big politicians?
How about symbolism of any kind?
What do you think of satire?
How about the Washington Monument? It doesn’t look anything like him. *grin*
Yeah, the Comicsalliance Obamouse is LAME. He looks like Will Smith circa “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and nothing like BaRat.
I say run with your Obamouse on a few t-shirts and see where it goes.
So no you’re a plagiarist AND a hack. Good job.
Yay! The resident troll is back! I was beginning to wonder where you had gone.
Are you going to criticise everybody who ran with an idea that someone else may have thought of previously?
Is one thing to disagree, and another to show disrespect to our President.
@Shawn
When they’re a hack and a plagiarist, yep. The only thing funny about this comic is how bad they’ve gotten. To the point he must now steal ideas.
@ Mr_Towi, Disaproval over someone showing disrespect to the President is your right. Showing disrespect to the President is also a right. A right that very few people complained of the exercise of when Bush was president I might add.

I think I hit a nerve

See my point there?

Aww, thanks for the nice words everyone.

Still a hack and a plagiarist.
